How to Clear Cache on Any Browser: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari
Browser cache stores copies of web pages to make loading faster, but sometimes cached files become corrupted and cause problems. Clearing your cache is a common fix for website loading issues, and it is easy to do.
Clear Cache in Google Chrome
Click the three dots menu in the top-right corner. Go to More Tools > Clear Browsing Data. Select Cached images and files. Choose All time for the time range and click Clear data. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+Delete on Windows to open the clear data window directly.
Clear Cache in Microsoft Edge
Edge is based on Chrome, so the steps are similar. Click the three dots menu and go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services. Under Clear browsing data, click Choose what to clear. Select Cached images and files and click Clear now. Ctrl+Shift+Delete works in Edge too.
Clear Cache in Firefox
Click the hamburger menu (three lines) and go to Settings > Privacy & Security. Under Cookies and Site Data, click Clear Data. Uncheck Cookies and Site Data if you want to keep your logins, and check Cached Web Content. Click Clear. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+Delete to open the clear history window.
Clear Cache in Safari
On macOS, open Safari and go to Settings in the menu bar. Click the Advanced tab and check Show Develop menu in menu bar. Then go to Develop > Empty Caches. On iPhone and iPad, go to Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data.
Why Clearing Cache Helps
Clearing your cache fixes problems like websites showing old content, pages not loading correctly, and stream buffering issues. It also frees up storage space on your computer. You will need to log into websites again, but your bookmarks and passwords remain saved.
