How to Extend Your iPhone Battery Life: 10 Proven Tips

There is nothing worse than your iPhone dying in the middle of the day. Whether you are navigating to a meeting, waiting for an important call, or just scrolling through social media, a dead battery is always inconvenient. The good news is that you can significantly improve your iPhone's battery life with a few simple adjustments.

We have compiled the 10 most effective tips to extend your iPhone battery life. These are all free, easy to implement, and work on any iPhone model running iOS 18 or later. No need to buy anything or visit an Apple Store.

Check Your Battery Health First

Before you try anything else, check your battery health. Go to Settings and tap Battery and then Battery Health. If your maximum capacity is below 80 percent, your battery has degraded significantly and may need replacement. Apple replaces batteries for a fee, and this alone can restore your battery life to like-new condition. If your battery health is above 80 percent, the tips below will help you get more life out of your current battery.

Adjust Display and Brightness Settings

The display is the biggest battery drain on any iPhone. Lower your screen brightness by swiping down Control Center and dragging the brightness slider. Enable Auto-Brightness in Settings under Accessibility and Display & Text Size, which adjusts brightness based on ambient light. Turn off Always-On Display if you have an iPhone 14 Pro or later. Go to Settings and Display & Brightness and toggle off Always-On Display. This feature keeps the screen partially lit and can drain significant battery throughout the day.

Manage Background App Refresh and Location Services

Many apps refresh their content in the background even when you are not using them. Go to Settings and General and Background App Refresh. Turn it off entirely, or selectively disable it for apps that don't need to update in the background like social media, shopping, and games. Location Services also drain significant battery. Go to Settings and Privacy & Security and Location Services. Review each app and set it to While Using instead of Always when possible. Apps like weather and maps need your location, but most others don't.
