iPhone Tips Every Beginner Should Know

Getting a new iPhone is exciting, but iOS can feel unfamiliar if you are coming from Android or if this is your first smartphone. Apple's operating system is known for being intuitive, but there are many features that even longtime users don't know about. This guide covers the essential tips every new iPhone owner should learn.

From organizing your home screen to mastering gestures and using built-in apps effectively, these tips will help you get the most out of your iPhone from day one.

Modern iPhones don't have a home button. Instead, you navigate with gestures. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to go home. Swipe up and hold to see your recent apps. Swipe left or right along the bottom edge to switch between apps quickly. Swipe down from the top-left to see notifications, and swipe down from the top-right to open Control Center where you can quickly access Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, brightness, and music controls. These gestures become second nature after a few days of use.

You can also swipe down from the middle of any screen to open Spotlight Search. This lets you find apps, contacts, files, and even search the web without opening Safari first.

Customize Your iPhone Home Screen

iOS now offers extensive customization options. Press and hold on an empty area of your home screen until the apps start jiggling. Tap the Edit button in the top-left corner or the + icon to add widgets. You can resize widgets by tapping and dragging their corners. Drag apps and widgets to rearrange them, or create folders by dragging one app onto another. To change your wallpaper, go to Settings and tap Wallpaper. You can set different wallpapers for your lock screen and home screen, and even create multiple lock screens with different widgets and styles.

Master the App Library and Siri Suggestions

The App Library is the last page on your home screen. It automatically organizes all your apps into categories like Social, Productivity, and Entertainment. You can hide app pages you don't use frequently and access any app through the App Library in seconds. Siri Suggestions appear on the App Library page and show apps and actions based on your usage patterns. If you always open Spotify at the gym, Siri will suggest it when you arrive. This smart feature saves you time by anticipating what you need before you even tap.
